In the summer of 1936 the North Face of the Eiger was still the undisputed champion in the relentless duel between climber and mountain. The conquest of the “Mordwand” (“Murder Wall” a play on words with the German name for the face) would bring social advancement and Olympic gold, and this is the dream of mountaineers Toni and Andi. Under the watchful eyes of the world's press as well as a journalist called Louise, Toni's former love, a race begins against time and nature, which once again seems to have the upper hand.
