Young Waldemar has just arrived in Vienna from a small Polish town, and he is already beginning to have doubts about the reliability of the advice his neighbour, Herr Kuka, gave him for his journey. He is cheated by his countrymen while soliciting on street corners, persuaded by a kleptomaniac German friend to rob a bank, loses his virginity for his birthday present, ... The West serves up all kinds of surprises and Waldemar's holiday quickly turns out to be an almost surreal journey of self discovery. A humorous film characterised by social contrasts and finding common ground despite national stereotypes.
