Heinz Emigholz invites to visit 40 selected buildings by the architect Rudolph M Schindler, who emigrated from Vienna to Los Angeles via Chicago. The still peaceful shots invite the audience to enliven the (now filmic) spaces with their thoughts. Emigholz is not under the delusion that he can present Schindler's architecture in its entirety. The hidden, “concealment” becomes a kind of meta-theme in the film, because Schindler's original architecture has become hidden behind plant growth, alterations and new building, but also because concealment is always innate to the film process.
